Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

The National Audubon Society's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary preserves the world's largest remaining subtropical old growth bald- cypress forest. It features a two-mile boardwalk trail that meanders through towering 500 year-old trees. Here in their natural habitat, relatively untouched by humans, you may well see alligators, deer and bobcats. There are almost 200 species of birds, including egrets, nesting Wood Storks and wading birds, and different varieties of frogs, turtles, snakes and lizards. This is may be the largest Wood Stork Nursery in North America. Each summer, red hibiscus flowers provide a splash of color in the swamp. The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is open year round: May-November, from 8 AM to 5 PM; December-April, from 7AM to 5 PM.
